Archery
The archery range is a stall that the Vikings! Of Middle England have set up at the larger shows that allow members of the public to have a go at archery with either modern bows or a wooden longbow.
We have members that are experienced in demonstrating the basics of archery to young and old alike, while following all possible safety measures to make sure that the experience is as safe as possible.
At smaller displays where a full range is not possible an archery competition is open (usually) to all of the members of the Vikings! Of Middle England that own their own archery equipment. While modern archery at the Olympics uses state of the art targeting aids and modern composites to increase accuracy, you can watch a knockout competition using period equipment in which various disciplines are demonstrated until only one champion remains.
We also have a selection of replica arrows that are on display which demonstrate the extent of the technology and inventiveness over 1000 years ago, including flaming arrows and arrows designed to pierce the best armour of the times.
