The Chapel
Within the chapel the visiting abbot or resident priest will hear confession, grant forgiveness and minister to the local people in their Christian faith. His was a powerful voice in village politics, and even kings would think twice before crossing god's emissary. He may be called upon to deliver a sermon exhorting the people to greater degrees of devotion, as the ever-present threat of excommunication dangled over the heads of all transgressors. Conversion to Christianity in Europe took many years and in many of our displays this conflict is apparent and demonstrates the unsettled nature of the times.
