Living History
Living History displays, which Vikings! (of Middle England) are able to
supply, can vary to meet requirements. A Small tented encampment of the
roving war band, to a more extensive "Village" incorporating our
many crafts displays and information points or even a full-size stockade,
where its defenders are awaiting the onslaught of the forthcoming siege.
We aim to make our Living History displays breathe, as the Viking (or Saxon)
families and craftsmen go about their daily routines from cooking and weaving
to blacksmithing and wood turning. Many of the craftsmen also produce goods
for sale and this adds yet another dimension to the exhibits as the true
feel of the dark age market permeates.
The public are invited to walk into the living history display and see
the various activities and artifacts at first hand and in some cases to
have a go themselves, and also meet members of the society, who are always
happy to answer any questions.
Our extensive living history displays are designed to give a careful blend
of information and enjoyment to the attending public. An extensive selection
of displays, crafts and stalls are available, each situated in an 'authentic'
setting and with members in costume on hand to demonstrate, inform and in
some cases, assist and supervise as the public make their way around the
camp.

Other Attractions
During the course of a day, as well as our 'static' displays and 'have a go' stalls, other 'micro' attractions away from the main rolling scenario are performed. Maybe a thief is found in the village, or a reeve collects taxes; all these add yet another dimension to an event and are performed with the same attention to detail and dramatic panache as our major scenes.
We also have a replica Longship which can be moored in a local watercourse or displayed as a static piece near out Living History encampment.
